In Frankenstein I think atmosphere is the most important element. The atmosphere can really set the mood for any good story. If you have a horror or gothic novel the atmosphere is going to be dark and gloomy not all bright and happy. When Doctor Frankenstein brought the monster to life it was a dark and stormy night, not a calm night. The was a thunderstorm with pounding rain that did not let up. This is the atmosphere that is set up by marry Shelly to bring more fear to they reader. We also have the guts of dead animals and other dead parts of animals and humans making it very easy to get sick. Dr Frankenstein did in fact get very sick from these unclean working conditions and the dead animal remains.
